What Are Lhasa Apsos Really Like?

Lhasa Apsos are gorgeous let’s face it. As far as style and elegance are concerned, dogs don’t come much more stylish and elegant than the Lhasa Apso.

The Lhasa Apso is a loveable, affectionate, playful little dog who loves the company of people while at the same time maintaining a degree of independence. Not many dogs can match the Lhasa Apso as a companion dog, which perhaps explains why, with an ageing population, their popularity continues unabated in the UK.

Lhasa Apsos are sociable, fun-loving little dogs. They are excellent with other animals and children but wary of strangers so early socialization is imperative. Bred as sentinal dogs by Buddhist monks for thousands of years to warn of intruders and impending danger, Lhasa Apsos make surprisingly good watchdogs considering their size. Their bark also gives the impression of a much larger dog, but then the Lhasa Apso is a little dog who thinks he’s much larger than he really is. Once again it’s in its makeup!

While they may have the reputation for being a little wilful, they are not a disobedient dog – it’s simply their upbringing. The Lhasa Apso is an intelligent breed, and properly and correctly taught right from wrong will happily fit in with any owner’s needs, be they a family with young children or the older, single person.

In summary, there are few more ideal companion dogs than the Lhasa Apso. The Lhasa Apso is particularly suited to the quieter, older owner, although likely to be just as happy with a family mindful of the Lhasa Apso’s more gentile side. They love people and crave nothing more from their owner than their companionship. They are definitely not a dog to be left outside. They need the company of people, although they are more than happy to spend a little time on their own.
